This is what i’ve been looking forward to so much! Getting in the car and explore Europe!
Let’s get this European Baja roadtrip started!
The plan is to drive to Monaco, through the French and Italian Alps, as much offroad as possible. End destination: Monaco, and if there is time left on this trip we will figure out a nice detour home.
My dad got himself a nice little 1969 Baja bug with a Subaru engine, also fitted with a rooftoptent so this is going to be a cool trip, two baja bugs always is better then one right?!
Aside from the fact the weather isn’t too great, we are on our way to the Alps! First stop; Luxembourg.
We managed to get to Luxembourg without any problems, the first day was succesfull! Time to get some heat into the barbecue and hopefully we’ll get close to the alps tomorrow.
We didn’t make it all the way to the alps on day 2, but at least we were in France, close to the alps!
When you’re on your way to the alps, and your are crossing Switserland.. you should do a little parade lap through Geneva right? 😉
The first night camping in The Alps! It was a bit chilly, but we made it! This is where the real (offroad) fun and good sceneries start!
We met a little convoy from Spain, also doing a offroad trip through The Alps with two little Mini Coopers and two proper 4×4’s. We have crossed them several times on our route, even though we had different routes and plans. But more on this later!
The next night in The alps; camping at Val d’isere, beautifull area but it was so incredibly wet and cold (around 4 degrees celcius) which made us have dinner and go to bed at 8pm. Tomorrow we’ll have more luck!
But we had a little visit from a local Volkswagen enthousiast, he heard two baja bugs were in town, so he came by with hes cool Volkswagen T3 Syncro van!
Col de l’iseran is next up in the list, a climbing mountain road to 2770 metres altitude (ca. 9000ft)
Still cold, but the views are incredible! (as you can see there is still snow at the top, in the middle of summer)
