So, after a chaotic time in Australia the time was there. Time to leave Australia..
I wasn’t ready to leave, that is for sure but circumstances regarding Covid-19 made me.
So lets get the baja and it’s rooftoptent shipped to Europe.
I had 2 weeks to drive down to Brisbane, QLD to get the baja to the shipper and catch my flight.. so this adventure was really coming to its end..? I couldn’t believe it, when i first arrived the devastating bushfire season of 2019/2020 was in full swing doing damage all around Australia. When that finally eased we got Covid. Together with me a lot of travelers must have thought; I chose the worst time ever to go to Australia. Hopefully funds wil allow me to go back one day since there is a lot of unfinished business in Australia for me. (For example; of my ‘Ozzie bucketlist’ i only managed to do one thing; buy a Baja and head out, but i havent been to THE places i wanted to see)
I made the most out of my last 2 weeks. Taking a fairly slow roadtrip down to Brisbane and camping as much as possible. Including the campfires ofcourse!
I made it to Brisbane, and whilst in brisbane.. ofcourse, my gearbox breaks after 45.000 kilometres (28.000 miles)
Never had major issues along the way, except for some oil leaks and a failing starter motor.. but this was a serious breakdown, all of the sudden your “house” is undriveable.
And Graham, another local Volkswagen enthusiast borrowed me their driveway and tools and he helped me personally with swapping the gearbox!
After swapping out the gearboxes the baja was driveable again! At least my last week in Australia didn’t go to waste, and it made it alot easier to get it to the shipper!
Huge thanks to Greg and Graham for the help, its amazing and i really appreciate it!
There she is, sitting in her own private container. Ready to go on a baja journey to Europe, including the kings rooftoptent!
To be continued…. But then on the other side of the world…
